The Raahat Foundation PenPal Project

What is it?

The PenPal Project is a way for students in the U.S. 🇺🇸 to brighten the lives of kids around the world 🌎. By writing simple, kind, and encouraging letters 📝💖, you can help inspire children in schools that don’t always have the same resources or opportunities.

by Suravi Bhatia

💡 Why are we doing this?

🌟 To remind kids everywhere that they matter and their dreams are worth chasing.
🤝 To build friendships and connections across cultures.
💪 To learn how powerful a few kind words can be.

🛠️ How does it work?

1. ✍️ Write a Letter – Share a story about yourself, your hobbies 🎨⚽🎶, your school 🏫, or a dream you have 🌠. End with encouraging words to motivate your penpal.
2. 💛 Stay Positive – Focus on kindness, support, and hope 🌈. Think about what would make *you* feel encouraged.
3. 📮 Send It Off – Letters will be collected and delivered through partner organizations ✈️ to schools around the world.

🌟 What’s the impact?

💡 Your letter might be the encouragement a student needs to keep working hard in school.
🌍 You’ll also gain a new perspective on life outside your community.
🤗 Together, we’ll create a chain of positivity that crosses borders.

✨ Volunteer hours

🌟 Each child should write five half page letters for 1 hour of volunteering.Max 5 letters per child.
🤝The work needs to be completed within 2 weeks of posting.
💪Digital certificates will be provided every three months as more projects will be shared.

💡 Parents, please follow guidelines on the next page before sending the emails

✨ Remember:

Small acts of kindness 💕 can make a BIG difference 🌟.

Sample Letter

Hello Friend,

My name is Emily, and I am in the 10th grade at Lincoln High School in Dallas, Texas, USA. I live in a big city where there are many schools, parks, and activities to do. My school is pretty large, with a lot of students, but I like it because it gives me the chance to meet many different people. I enjoy being part of clubs and after-school activities, like our science club and the soccer team. Playing sports helps me stay active and teaches me teamwork, while clubs let me explore subjects I’m passionate about.

One of my biggest dreams is to become a doctor when I grow up. I want to work in medicine because I really care about helping people feel better and I think it would be amazing to make a difference in someone’s life. Ever since I was young, I have been curious about how doctors and nurses take care of patients, and it inspired me to imagine myself in that role one day. My family has always encouraged me to work hard in school so I can reach this goal, and I know that with effort, persistence, and determination, dreams can come true.

My favorite subject is Biology 🧬 because I love learning about how the human body works and how all living things are connected. This year in class, we studied cells and genetics, and I found it fascinating to learn how such tiny parts of our bodies control so much of who we are. I also enjoy experiments in the lab, like when we look at samples under the microscope or test out different reactions. Doing hands-on science makes me feel curious and excited, and it reminds me that there is still so much in the world to discover.

Outside of school, I love reading books 📚 and listening to music 🎶. Reading allows me to imagine new worlds and learn about different cultures, while music helps me relax and express myself. Sometimes I even try writing short stories or poems when I feel creative. These hobbies make me feel balanced and happy, especially when school gets busy.

Even though we live in different parts of the world, I believe we both share big dreams for the future. I hope you keep working hard in school and never give up, because education is the key to opening many doors. There may be challenges along the way, but every step forward brings you closer to your goals. Remember—you are strong, smart, and capable of doing amazing things. I am cheering for you from across the world!

Your new friend,
Emily 🌟
